Fieldwork procedures

 

All persons participating in University-approved field work are to comply with University policy and procedures.

UWA's fieldwork planning and risk assessment process

The fieldwork planning and risk assessment process must be followed by anyone undertaking fieldwork. Fieldwork must be approved by the Head of School prior to departure.

All required forms must be completed and submitted for School approval at least 10 days prior to the activity. For all forms and requirements, see the Safety, Health and Wellbeing website.

Details regarding the requirements to undertake water-based fieldwork activities involving diving and boating can be found here.

Forms needing to be completed include the following:

1. Fieldwork Participant Declaration (Form 1)

This form must be completed annually by every participant. It provides a record for next of kin and important medical details.

2. Fieldwork Safety Plan (Form 7)

This form includes: 

  • Fieldwork description
  • Transport arrangements
  • Contact details & emergency response plan
  • Full itinerary
  • Participant declaration

3. Fieldwork Safety Risk Assessment

The fieldwork safety risk assessment form is a planning tool used to identify hazards and plan control measures. records the trip's risk assessment. It is the supervisor's responsibility to ensure control measures are properly implemented.

School fieldwork induction

The induction is compulsory for all fieldwork participants and is conducted by a member of the Technical Staff.
